STATEMENT ON THE LOSS OF PETER KORMOS
I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Peter Kormos, former Ontario NDP MPP, minister, and most recently, member of the Niagara Regional Council. He cast a large influence over politics at the Ontario Legislature for many years.
On behalf of federal New Democrats, I extend our sincere condolences to his family, and particularly his mother and his siblings. Peter will be deeply missed.
BUDGET 2013

MALCOLM ALLEN ON THE COMMUNITY PASTURES PROGRAM
Blatant lack of consultation has become an alarming trend for the Harper government – one that has carried over to prairie farmers who are constantly taken for granted.
The latest example of this disregard for farmers came in the form of a decision to give up 900,000 hectares of community pastures to provincial governments. The decision, tucked away in the government’s sweeping omnibus budget bill this past spring, has many farmers fearful that these valuable areas will become inaccessible or snatched up by private ventures and sit idle for years.
HONOURING OUR LOCAL VOLUNTEERS
By: Malcolm Allen
This fall, we will celebrate the tireless efforts of our local volunteers and pay homage to Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee with a much-anticipated ceremony.
Volunteers are people who spend many hours doing important work in our community, whether it’s spending time with the elderly, visiting patients at the hospital or preserving our environment.
This fall, 30 of those volunteers who have so selflessly given their time and contributed their talents across our great community will be awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
