The NDP capped off a busy and productive spring parliamentary session by fighting the Conservatives’ reckless and unfair omnibus budget bill. This budget will stall job creation, hurt seniors and penalize Canadians seeking employment.

I expressed my deep concern on behalf of my constituents who will be negatively impacted by the increase in the age of eligibility for Old Age Security from 65 to 67 and Employment Insurance reform that will leave many Canadians questioning how they will support their families.

Never before have we seen such a reckless backdoor attempt to change fundamental Canadian laws and close the curtains on transparency. That’s the Budget Implementation Act for you: a massive Trojan Horse of a bill that the Conservatives are trying to ram through Parliament.

Op-Ed By: Malcolm Allen, M.P. Welland

There’s no denying that Canadians currently face an employment crisis. Here in Niagara, we know this all too well.

Last month alone, 2,800 jobs were lost across the country and nearly 38,000 Ontarians gave up looking for work altogether. A recent report from TD Economics has called the recovery "non-existent" for young people, who face an unemployment rate of 14.7 per cent.
